We're getting closer to summer and to the first anniversary of the death of Michael Stone, whose passing has reverberated through yoga, meditation and activist circles, creating a great deal of confusion and grief.

Often, a first anniversary can be an intense time in the grieving process. The seasons have come full circle and the sights, sounds and smells can remind us, in such an embodied way, of the initial shock of loss.

As two long-time students of Michael's we can't imagine a better way to be present for this anniversary than a retreat. This will be an opportunity to celebrate the ways that Michael helped us, made us laugh, challenged us, and changed our lives with a community of people who are also processing what it means for Michael to be gone.

About the retreat:

This retreat will include formal meditation practice, guided movement, time spent in silence, shared meals, work periods and contemplative time both alone and together. There are acres of beautiful forest and meadow paths and a small spring-fed swimming pond to explore.

As facilitators we anticipate that a group with diverse experiences will come together and and co-create a meaningful shared experience.

This retreat is a welcome space for any person who has been impacted by Michael Stone in a meaningful way. You may have studied with Michael in person, either over an extended period of time or just once, or learned from his books, podcast or online courses. Important relationships come in many forms.

If you're considering attending this retreat it’s important that you have some meditation experience.  We will be spending a portion of the weekend in silence with formal meditation practice for a part of each day, and we won't have the resources to provide a lot of instruction.

The details:

Location: The retreat will be held at Au Grand Coeur, a rustic retreat centre on 600 acres of land in the Pontiac region of Quebec, just over an hour north of Ottawa. We encourage car-pooling and will do what we can to support arrangements!

Accommodations include:

  • Shared rooms in the main house
  • Shared cabins a short walk from the main house
  • Your own tent if you prefer solitude.

All options are the same price and everyone has access to shared bathrooms with hot showers.

Date: Friday July 13 (2-4 PM arrival)- Sunday July 15 (230-4PM depart) 
It may be possible to attend for just Saturday if you have family or work obligations that make it necessary.

Food: We will have a caterer for our meals but it's expected that you will sign up to help prep or clean up as needed. The food will be simple, beautiful, seasonal vegetarian. All meals and snacks will be provided and special dietary needs can be accommodated within reason.

The centre is rustic, comfortable and offers all that we need for a weekend of contemplation and connection.

Price: The cost of the weekend is $250 for all material costs and additional Dana (teaching gift) to the facilitators to cover our travel costs and basic expenses. Suggested Dana for waged earners is $100 but can be whatever you can afford and feel right offering. Dana is offered at the end of the retreat.

Payment can be made by e-transfer once we've accepted your application.

Sliding scale spaces are available and can be requested in your application form. If finances are an obstacle we would still like you to attend this retreat.
